Fukuoka-ken
Pagodas are sacred places where can make our soul completely relax because of the sanctity and tranquility of these places. Once my friend introduced me Nanzoin pagoda in Sasaguri town, Fukuoka Prefecture. I was looking forward to it, it was really beautiful, as my friends said.
About 5 minute-walk from JR Kidonanzoin-mae station. On the way to Nanzoin Pagoda, you will come across a bridge called “Melody Bridge”. The reason it has that name is because when you use a mallet to knock on the bridge, it will create some melodies. If you have the opportunity to come here, do not forget this interesting thing. I’m sure it is great.
Entrance fee is free, you can also see souvenir shops along the way to the pagoda with many small and pretty items, I really love the turtle in this box. It looks so cute, right?
I saw a turtle crawling on the ground and there were many more turtles in other small lakes. According to my friend, the turtle has been known to be a symbol of longevity and good luck.
Following the path to the pagoda, I found a statue of a Buddha named Daisho-Fudo-Myoo with 11 meters of height, who is said to help people avoid calamities.
To get to the reclining Buddha statue that everyone is looking forward to, first you have to go through the “Tunnel of seven lucky gods”. And after going through this tunnel you will see the place where people pray to win the lottery named Daikokudo and Myokendo.
And this is the place people expect most, the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world built in 1995 with a length of 41 meters, height of 11 meters and weighs about 300 tons. They said that many tourists are attracted by this place and there are a lot of people visiting it every year.
It’s best to wear shoes and sneakers because Nanzoin is very spacious to walk around. The most beautiful time I recommend is early November. This is the time of Autumn Leaves Season in Japan, so the scenery will become more poetic. Wish you have a wonderful trip.
