When speaking of art galleries, you probably think of fashionable staff waiting in stylish stores where the works are so expensive that you can’t afford them. But in Kiyama Town, Saga Prefecture, there is a place where it’s easy for anyone to drop by and buy art.

Which happens to be a clinic!

The disability welfare service office PICFA in Kiyama Kage Clinic is a place where members can develop their social life through artistic ventures.

When you enter the clinic, what looks like an apparel shop is actually the waiting room.

The goods and art works here are just the tip of the iceberg. As you go further in, more exciting art welcomes you.

Further Back, the Entrance to PICFA

When you step into the back, the warm sunlight coming in through the large windows hits the plants harmonizing with the artwork, making it look like a fashionable cafe or co-working space.

This plant in the picture was brought by a neighbor, and the community is united in creating a comfortable space.

If you sit on the sofa while admiring the work at your leisure, time passes by in a blink of an eye and you forget that this is in a clinic.

The information on the creators are introduced next to each work, so you can know more about them.

If you look at this work pictured below up close, you will see that it is carefully colored one shade at a time with colored pencils.

Each work has a title, and you can get a small peek into the creative world lying in the minds and hearts of each member.

This work above is made with spray paint.

First, a fine pattern is cut out to make paper stencils, then the colors are sprayed on  in layers several times to create a unique shade. When looking at the hand-made stencils, you tremble at their delicate precision.

The title of this work is Ningen Matsuri (Human Festival).

People with different facial expressions, clothes, genders, occupations (with some cute alien-looking faces here and there) are all drawn with a thin pen.

It’s so detailed that it can’t be expressed in photos or text. Please come and see for yourself.

The art styles can change dramatically depending on each member, for example, these four works were all drawn by just one member.

Currently, the theme is fairy tales and the above work revolves around the theme of Momotaro.

If you listen to the story behind such a creation, you will be able to appreciate it from a different perspective, further increasing your interest in the work and in the members of PICFA.

There are various art supplies used, such as paints, colored pencils, spray paint, pens, cloth, and embroidery threads, that you will never tire of seeing.

These are only a few of the works introduced this time, but there are even more art works not currently on display in the corridor, so you will surely discover your favorites.
