Cormorant fishing is an ancient fishing method in which a cormorant master on a fishing boat trains Japanese cormorants birds (a type of seabird) to catch river fish. A cormorant master and a captain board the cormorant boat together.

A maximum of 12 birds can be operated by one cormorant master. With a rope attached to the neck, the cormorant master handles the rope skillfully, and the cormorant bird dives into the water to catch sweetfish and other river fish. When the cormorant bird swallows the fish and rises to the surface of the water, the cormorant master pulls the rope, then the cormorant bird drops the fish caught.This is repeated many times to fish.

This is a fantastic historical picture scroll boasting a tradition of 1300 years being unfolded in front of the customers.
