Beppu hot spring

Kuju “Dream” suspension bridge

With a length of 390m and 173m high on Kusuikei’s 777m, it boasts the most beautiful suspension bridge in Japan. Standing on the suspension bridge, you can see the fast flowing waterfalls, one of Japan’s 100 selected waterfalls, and enjoy beautiful views . Those are things that you shouldn’t miss.

Yamanami Highway

It’s one of the most popular routes of Kyushu. At Chojahara, you can see a comprehensive view of the mountains when you pass the green paths with the leaves fluttering in the wind. You can also enjoy the magnificent beauty of nature if you go to near Mount Yufudake and Kuju.

Toriten

It is a long-loved folk dish in Oita made from fried chicken and looks like Karaage, but it softer. The taste of spices and sauces will be different depending on the way how to make of restaurants.

Ryukyu

Local cuisine of Oita prefecture with a sweet and spicy flavor. It is a local dish of Oita, which fresh fish fillets such as horse mackerel, mackerel, yellowtail and amberjack are soaked in a sauce containing soy sauce, sake, mirin, ginger, sesame and others.

Kumquats

Grown in the natural environment, 98% of the yield is a citrus fruit produced in Oita. There are a lot of souvenirs made from these fruits like candy or juices.

Shiitake mushroom

Oita Prefecture is famous for being the largest producer of dried shiitake mushrooms in Japan. The ingredients of shiitakes are oak and kunugi, and the most commonly used are kunugi, the flavor of which is mainly the taste and aroma of shiitake mushrooms.

Oita bamboo lights festival

Oita Prefecture has the largest amount of “Maketake” bamboo material production in Japan. Therefore, you can see a fantastic landscape using bamboo. HitaCity has “Hita City Millennium Akari”, Usuki City has “Usuki Takeyoi”, Takeda City has “Taketake Bamboo Lantern Bamboo” . All of these become a feature of autumn in Oita Prefecture.

Nanase Fire Festival

A fire festival is decorated with a beautiful pine tree and two lanterns on the banks of the Nanase River along with bamboo lanterns. On top of pine trees, bundles of straw, pine needles, fireworks, … are attached to the top of the tree 12 meters high and a torch was thrown to let the fire burn. It’s so strong that the heat of the flames and sparks shoot out at the audience’s position.
