Surrounded by the Sea of Japan, the Tsugaru Strait, and the Pacific Ocean on three sides, the inland area is blessed with beautiful and magnificent nature such as the Shirakami Mountains and Lake Towada. The Ou Mountains, located in the center of the prefecture, divide the climate into two parts, with heavy snowfall in the Tsugaru region in winter and many dry, sunny days on the Pacific side. Hirosaki Park In the park, there are still remains of the castle tower, turrets, and gates from the feudal era. In the spring, the cherry blossom festival is the best in Japan, in the fall, the autumn foliage festival turns the white walls of the castle tower red, and in the winter, the snow lantern festival is held with snow sculptures and Kamakura. |
Oirase Gorge The Oirase Mountain Stream is covered with deep natural forests. The scenery is full of the liveliness of the flowing water. The cliffs on both sides of the river are said to be made of dissolved tuff, which is made of pumice and volcanic ash deposited at high temperatures. The green tunnel that stretches for about 14 kilometers is a continuous source of inspiration.

Seikan Tunnel Museum The Seikan Tunnel, 240 meters below the seafloor and 53.85 kilometers long, runs through the bottom of the Tsugaru Strait. Based on materials from that time, the exhibition uses sound, video, and three-dimensional models to introduce in an easy-to-understand manner the many trajectories that unfolded under the harsh conditions over the 42 years since its conception. |
Mount Osore It is said that the mountain was founded as a sacred mountain by Jikaku Daishi of the Tendai school of Buddhism in Japan. The bare rock surface, the steam rising from the sulfur pores here and there, and the deep, clear waters of Lake Usori must have looked like both paradise and hell. |

Senbei-jiru (Hachinohe Chicken & Cracker Soup) This is a local dish of the Hachinohe region. Nambu senbei crackers made of flour and salt are crisply cracked into a broth made from meat, fish, mushrooms, vegetables, etc., are simmered. The rice crackers were made for use in soup, and are characterized by their chewy texture and resistance to melting even when cooked. |
Oma Tuna Of all the natural tuna harvested in the Tsugaru Strait, the tuna in Oma Town is known throughout the country under the brand name of “Oma Maguro,” the highest quality tuna. The tuna dismantling show is a popular tourist attraction, and you can enjoy it in Oma.

Ichigoni A rich soup made with sea urchin and abalone that has been eaten in the Hachinohe region for centuries. The name comes from the fact that the sea urchin in the bowl looked like wild strawberries. This canned product can be served hot as it is, or it can be used for takikomi gohan(mixed rice), chawanmushi(steamed egg custard), or zosui(rice soup). |
Kininaru Ringo This is a luxurious apple pie with a whole Aomori Fuji apple in syrup, wrapped in a pie crust. You can enjoy the flavor and crunchy texture of the apple as it is. It is popular for its package illustration and its name.

Aomori Nebuta Festival This is one of the most famous summer festivals in Japan. It is said that the ancient Chinese Tanabata Festival and Tsugaru’s Spirit Feeding, Doll Feeding, Insect Feeding, etc. were united to form the huge lantern “Nebuta” that we now know today. Haneto dancers, dance to the chat “Rassera,” which lively the enthusiasm of this festival. |
Hachinohe Sansha Festival (3 Shrines Festival) Registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage “Yama, Hoko, Yatai Event”, the festival is known for the energy of the people and the impact of the 27 floats.
